A free Ekahau alternative

Ekahau is built for enterprise Wi-Fi design and surveys, and priced for it: measuring needs a $1,495 yearly subscription plus the $4,995 Sidekick 2. WiFi Heatmapper makes measured and predicted heatmaps for free, in your browser. Here are both side by side.

Ekahau plans

  • Ekahau Plan, $1,495 a year: predictive design in Ekahau AI Pro, with no Wi-Fi measuring of its own.
  • Ekahau Measure Pro, $1,495 a year: on-site surveys and troubleshooting. Requires the Sidekick 2.
  • Ekahau Software Suite, $2,495 a year: both of the above. Full functionality requires the Sidekick 2.
  • Sidekick 2, $4,995: the measuring device. It needs an active Measure Pro or Software Suite licence.

Looking for Ekahau HeatMapper?

Ekahau HeatMapper was Ekahau's free Windows tool for mapping home and small office Wi-Fi. It is no longer on Ekahau's site: its old page now leads to Ekahau's paid heatmap products. WiFi Heatmapper covers the same ground for free, in any browser, with no install.

Add a floor plan image or sketch the walls, click where you stand and type the signal strength your laptop shows. The heatmap fills in as you go. The predicted view lets you place your router and mesh points and drag them to compare positions before you move anything. Your plan and readings stay in your browser.

Make a heatmap now, free, or see what Pro adds.
