Who is responsible
WiFi Heatmapper (wifiheatmapper.com) is responsible for the personal data described here. Contact: hello@wifiheatmapper.com.
What stays on your device
Your floor plan, readings, notes, devices, report details and settings are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. They are not sent to any server, and nobody else can see them. You can remove them with Reset project in the app or by clearing the site's data in your browser. Exports (PNG and PDF) are created in your browser and saved where you choose.
The helper app for live readings runs on your computer and answers only this website in your browser on that computer. It does not send anything over the internet.
With Pro, your browser also keeps its licence and a random ID it made for itself (see Buying Pro below).
What is collected, and why
Forms you choose to send
The Pro interest form ("Notify me about Pro"), the feedback form and the bug report form send what you enter, such as your email address, your answers, your message and, for bug reports, your device and browser, to hello@wifiheatmapper.com. A copy of a Pro interest submission is also kept in your browser, so it is not lost if sending fails. The email address and choice from the Pro interest form are also kept in the licence database (Cloudflare, in the EU), so the early-supporter code can be sent; while that offer runs, the code is emailed to you right away.
- Pro interest: to tell you when Pro is available, about the early-supporter price, and to learn what Pro should include. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time by email.
- Feedback and bug reports: to fix problems, improve the tool and reply to you if you left an email address. Legal basis: legitimate interest in running and improving the tool (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Buying Pro
Pro is sold by Polar (polar.sh) as the merchant of record: Polar takes the payment, VAT and invoice under its own privacy policy, and this site never sees your card. Polar sends the licence server your email address and the order details; the server creates your licence key and emails it to you. It keeps your email address, the order reference and a fingerprint (hash) of the key, never the key itself.
For each browser where you use Pro, it keeps a random ID that the browser made for itself (nothing about your hardware), the browser and system name, such as "Chrome on macOS", and when it was activated and last checked. That is how a licence works on 2 devices. Legal basis: our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Usage statistics, without cookies
To see which features are used, the site counts page views and events such as "heatmap exported" with Umami. It sets no cookies and does not identify you: events carry only their name and small details like which view was open, never floor plans, readings, network names, file names or anything you type. If the app crashes, the first line of the error message is counted, so the bug can be found. Legal basis: legitimate interest in a working, useful site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Server logs
Like any website, the hosting provider briefly processes technical data such as your IP address and browser to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse; the forms are also rate-limited by IP address. Legal basis: legitimate interest in security and operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
There are no ads, no tracking cookies, no profiles, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
Who processes data on the site's behalf
- Cloudflare, Inc. (USA): hosting, form handling, the licence database (stored in the EU), protection against abuse and forwarding of email sent to hello@wifiheatmapper.com.
- Resend (USA): delivers form submissions and licence emails.
- Polar (polar.sh): sells Pro as the merchant of record (payment, VAT, invoices).
- Umami Software: cookieless usage statistics.
- Google (Gmail): the mailbox where the emails are read.
Some of these providers are in the USA. Transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
How long it is kept
- Pro interest: until Pro has launched and you have been told, or until you ask for deletion; at most 2 years.
- Feedback and bug reports: as long as needed to handle them; at most 2 years.
- Licences: as long as the licence exists. You can ask for deletion, which ends the licence. A device entry is removed when you remove Pro from that device or free your devices.
- Invoices and payment records: kept by Polar for as long as tax law requires.
- Usage statistics: kept by the providers as aggregated counts that do not identify you.
- Server logs: a short time set by the hosting provider, usually days.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, its correction or deletion, restriction of processing, a copy in a portable format, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest or withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@wifiheatmapper.com; you will get an answer within one month. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 16, and the forms should not be used by them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published here with its date. See also the terms of use.
