A free NetSpot alternative

NetSpot is one of the best-known WiFi survey apps, but its free desktop edition only shows demo heatmaps. WiFi Heatmapper makes real heatmaps for free, in your browser. Here are both, free and paid, side by side.

NetSpot editions

  • Free: discovers and analyses the Wi-Fi networks around you (Inspector mode). Survey and Planning modes show demo heatmaps only.
  • PRO: one user plus a technician licence. Enterprise: ten users and ten technicians, no zone or data point limits, $1,399 lifetime or $699 a year (US price).
  • Mobile: on Android, survey heatmaps need the paid NetSpot Plus. The iOS app maps internet speed rather than signal strength.

WiFi Heatmapper

Add a floor plan image or sketch the walls, click where you stand and type the signal strength your laptop shows. The heatmap fills in as you go. The predicted view lets you place your router and mesh points and drag them to compare positions before you move anything. Your plan and readings stay in your browser.

Make a heatmap now, free, or see what Pro adds.
